The 2010 the Founder’s Day Parade and Thanksgiving Service “came home” as we marched from Hampton Court Green, past the Royal Mews to Hampton Court Palace on Saturday the 27th of February.
Tourists and residents of East Molesey watched in amazement as our smartly turned out group paraded into the grounds of the palace to be inspected by the Mayor of Richmond.
Almost 200 uniformed members of the association took part in the procession, which was accompanied by music from the Horse Rangers’ band and involved ten of the organisation’s horses and ponies:- Samson, Tracey, Nancy, Victor, Dublin, Danny, Perry, Rufus, Ascot and Cameo. We also welcomed colour parties from the Harwich and Windsor troops who joined us for this special event.
A group of lucky Horse Rangers went on a tremendous day out at Kempton Park on April 16th courtesy of the British Racing School. Our group was treated to a box with a fabulous view of the finish line and they even met with Frankie Dettori who showed them the jockey’s changing room and explained about the equipment they use.
RDA Regional Dressage – June
Two riders from our special needs riding section demonstrated great skill and confidence at this year’s Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Regional Dressage Competition, which was held at the Arrow Riding School in Dartford on 2nd June.
Katie Pollicott (riding Danny) and Lorraine Harmes (riding Sam) both took part in a Dressage class as well as the “Countryside Challenge” obstacle course. Although Danny was a little unsettled by the unfamiliar surroundings, both riders rode very well, with Lorraine achieving third place
in the Countryside Challenge and Katie finishing in fourth place.
This year’s Awards Day on Sunday 27th June was particularly bright and sunny, with temperatures rising as high as 30°C. Our musical ride display team and marching band entertained friends and family as all six of our squadrons assembled for the presentations.
As well as the presentation of a number of important awards that recognise the achievements of our members over the last 12 months, the event also included the results of the Best Rider Competition, presentations of the HRA’s prestigious Golden Spur merit badge and the latest Squadron promotions, which signify our Rangers’ progress through the organisation.
