Full Name: Disney
Colour/Breed: Grey Cob, Gelding
Height: 14.3 hh
Disney joined the Horse Rangers Association on 6 August 2010. He is on loan to us from the Horse Trust who took him in when he was rescued from Spindles Farm where there was a high profile animal abuse case (see the photo of when he was rescued to the left). When Disney was first rescued he was suffering from a salmonella infection and was severely underweight. Over the next 18 months he nearly doubled his weight and transformed into the healthy, happy horse we have today.
Disney had never been ridden and so on joining HRA we gradually introduced him to work, from long reining to putting a saddle on him, to pole work before eventually being allowed to ride out with the Rangers. Disney took all of this in his stride and within his first year had started as lead horse in our Musical Ride Display Team.
In 2011 he was invited to be part of the Horse Trust's 125th anniversary celebrations at Olympia where he met HRH The Princess Royal. However, he was no stranger to fame as BBC Animal 24:7 had charted his progress from Spindles Farm to the Horse Trust and then his arrival at HRA.
In 2013 Disney was runner-up for the brave heart category in ITV's British Animal Honours.
